The young people of March left us as a spiritual legacy that we cannot give a hair's breadth of our national independence to anyone's friendship or threats!

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán addressed a letter to Hungarians abroad, which will be read throughout the Carpathian Basin and the wider world at the events held on the occasion of our national holiday on March 15 - announced Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister's press chief, highlighting the following from the letter:

we cannot give a single hair of our national independence to anyone's friendship or threats.

"In 1848, the Hungarian nation became the standard bearer of freedom. The young people of March not only demanded a responsible government, the abolition of censorship and equality before the law, but they also wanted to finally be able to live in a Europe whose nations want to rise together, side by side, and not on each other's ruins. They believed: freedom is not for its own sake, and it is absolutely not the freedom of the stronger over the weaker, of the majority over the minority, but above all, it serves to create peace, security and prosperity for all people," Viktor Orbán wrote to Hungarians abroad.

"They left us as a spiritual heritage sealed with their personal blood sacrifice, that we cannot give a hair's breadth of our national independence to anyone's friendship or threats," continued the Prime Minister in his celebratory letter.

Viktor Orbán emphasized: the light of the watch fires of Hungarian freedom is still visible from afar. It announces that we, the Hungarians, please reclaim the free, dignified and strong Europe that was able to keep peace on its own land, and resolutely

stood up against all overt or covert attempts to eradicate the language and culture of its native minorities.

Let there be peace, freedom and harmony! - concluded the Prime Minister's letter.
