László Evelin, with his song Legényes, performed in a fusion of folk, rock and symphonic music, won this year's public media light music competition, Song of the Year 2024, and thus the opportunity to make his album in one of the most famous studios in the world, MTVA announced. The country's only song selection has come to an end, the final ten songs competed in a symphonic version for the Song of the Year 2024 title and the opportunity to make a record at the world-famous Hansa Studios in Berlin. In the competition of Hungarian music, based on the scores of the jury composed of Lojzi Szandi, Alajos Németh, György Ferenczi and Péter Egri, it reached the top four: Kiáltás by Roy Galeri, Nem lekhetek other by Negál, Legényes by László Evelin, and Half Words by Phoenix RT -from.

The decision was in the hands of the audience, with the most votes, the viewers chose Legényes, which evokes folk music motifs, as the song of the year. László Evelin's song with an intimate message, its music and lyrics were inspired by her husband.

"The essence of my work is self-acceptance. I went through many difficult times in my childhood and I am proud that I was able to get up from them. I hope that those who listen to it will draw strength from my song and recognize the miracle inherent in them"

said the winner.

Last year's winner Titán returned to the finale with an extra production. The Saxon orchestra performed a selection of songs from the band's new album Beyond Words, including the winning song of the previous season, Midnight Flight.

At one of the biggest televised music events in our country, the latest Hungarian songs were played in the live show that lasted for weeks. For the first time this year, 60 songs from hundreds of entries were given the opportunity to be presented before the jury in the pre-selection. From there, 40 productions could continue the competition for the main prize. An exciting challenge awaited the 20 contestants who made it through the selection process: in the semi-final, they presented their song in a genre different from the original, reworked with the help of the best of Hungarian popular music.

The finalist productions were accompanied by the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by conductor Krisztián Balassa.
