However, there are quite a few of them: Ivett and Tamás, for example, left behind a stable existence in England for a farm in the Great Plains.
They found the homely, lovely little porter on the Internet. The couple previously lived in England for many years, where they both had a stable existence. Ivett Balogh initially worked as an au-pair, then got to know the language better, obtained a kindergarten teacher's qualification and got a job in a kindergarten.
Tamás Geleta worked in his original profession, as a butcher, and put his heart and soul into his work. He really liked what he was doing, but he imagined continuing at home. Alex was also born outside, whose mother envisioned a different fate.
It was a difficult decision to move home. I worked as a kindergarten teacher in England for ten years. Brexit came, then covid, and finally I said amen. Let's come home then, because I didn't want our son to grow up seeing family members very rarely. I dreamed of a life for him like my childhood with my grandparents. I think these little joys make life beautiful
- Ivett Balogh told the Multi-colored region .
Tamás found the farm in the Southern Great Plain after a long search. They found the homely, lovely little porter on the Internet. The farm was built by Uncle Pista and Aunt Éva, and was bought from them in 2022. The reason they decided on Mártély was because here you could buy a farm at a normal price, on which you don't have to spend a lot.
Ivett didn't want to move to a farm, but when he got to know the place up close, he knew he could imagine his life with Mártély. He was captivated by the beauty of the plain landscape, and even today he looks at the landscape and the animals as if he feels lucky to live here.
There is plenty of bee pasture
Tamás Geleta's family has a generational tradition of beekeeping, his godfather and grandfather also dealt with bees. With the head of a small child, he also helped his father, who was a hobby beekeeper, a lot around the boxes.
The location of the farm is excellent from the outset, as last year there were sunflower and rapeseed fields within a 5-kilometer radius, so the bees did not have to fly far. On the banks of the Tisza, the Amor acacia also grows in large numbers, which the industrious insects are also happy to collect.
During the winter, we make frames for the hives. We will paint them because they have to be ready for the new families by the end of spring and the beginning of summer. Last June, there was also a lot of activity at the gate. Almost every day there was a swarm of bees that had to be captured
Ivet listed.
In 2022, after they moved home and found their new home, they started beekeeping almost immediately. They started with 10 families two years ago, and currently have 60 bee families. The long-term goal is 100 families, they calculated, from that they can make a decent living, although they are also aware that the situation of beekeepers in Hungary is not rosy at the moment.
In 2023, the new farmers produced mixed flower honey and sunflower honey. They plan to migrate with the bees this year, and prepare for Ópusztaszer with the families when the acacia blooms.
They stand on several legs
The owners of the farm - Aunt Éva and Uncle Pista - have been growing chrysanthemums for a long time. When the Ivets met the elderly couple, they learned the tricks of growing flowers from them. Aunt Éva was happy to show how to plant the plants.
The season runs from June to November. The experience of the first year was favorable, so they will continue cultivation this year as well. In the longer term, Ivett and Tamás think about self-sufficiency if possible. They also planted two tents of table grapes, they cherish several plans, but as Tamás says, "they only have two hands".
We like to grow our own fruits and vegetables. There is no more comforting feeling than when you know exactly what you are eating. Of course, you have to learn a lot about how to grow healthy fruits. We like to do this, gardening is a beneficial therapy for us
emphasized the young woman.
A neat poultry yard has also been set up at the gate, in addition to ten hens, a rooster and two "pearls", two peacocks complete the stock. There are currently four kittens purring on the porch, but they have been neutered because they don't want to reproduce.
They didn't regret coming home
Ten-year-old Alex loves living on the farm, and his favorite pastime with his friend Bori is catching lizards. They are aware that they are protected animals, so they are always released. They build a bunker in the lilac bush and hunt rabbits with toy guns.
The small family lived a quiet, small-town life in England. They gained a lot of experience, got to know a completely different culture and a foreign language, but Tamás and Ivett are satisfied with the way they live at the moment.
It was a difficult decision to leave what we had built up over 18 years, but here, in Mártély, we are at home. We have had two challenging years behind us, but I feel that we are on the right track, as the goal is to be able to make a living from our work here as well.
According to Ivett Balogh, what makes everyone happy is different. Some people like farm life and some people don't. They did not regret for a minute that they chose this life. They have more time for each other, they don't always have to "run somewhere", moreover, they live close to nature, and this makes them happy.
If you feel like it, feel free to do so. If you love nature, animals and are not afraid of challenges, then why not do it. It is important to have a firm resolve because there is nothing like living in an apartment in the city. Heating, waste water treatment and, of course, drinking water supply must also be solved
- outlined the landlady.
