"I would like to help the young man to come out of this situation stronger," wrote Elek Nagy, a businessman from Transylvania, who offers support to the Hungarian gymnast who suffered abuse.
A businessman from Transylvania offered support to the 15-year-old Hungarian gymnast who was abused and humiliated by two of his peers at the junior national team's training camp in Resicabánya. Elek Nagy wants the young man to emerge from this situation strengthened.
The businessman living in Hungary, the owner of BÁV, INFORG and Főtaxi, the president of the Budapest Chamber of Commerce and Industry offers full sponsorship and further education support to the tortured teenager, if he believes that continuing sports in Hungary is a good chance and a successful alternative for the realization of his sports career, as the events may hinder his successful development.
The patron - who, incidentally, is the founder of the György Méhes - Nagy Elek Foundation - stated: the behavior of the majority abusing the minority in any way and for any reason is unacceptable and cannot be left without consequences.
"When I was young, I was also subjected to atrocities in Transylvania because of my Hungarian nationality. Thanks to my parents, friends, and my school, I was able to process these and become stronger. The abused young man must feel that there is a community that stands behind him and helps him"
- stressed Elek Nagy. He pointed out that his father, György Méhes, risked his life in September 1944, even in Cluj-Napoca, under German occupation, to write his famous article "Romanians and Hungarians", in which the two peoples who have lived side by side for centuries, under any kind of power, in addition to the peaceful coexistence cast his vote.
"He brought us up in this spirit and I do the same. I would like to help the young man to come out of this situation stronger"
explained the patron.
A modern castle lord who offers his castle on the altar of the nation
As we wrote , the 15-year-old gymnast from Lugos was subjected to shocking abuse and humiliation at the training camp in Resicabánya, where the junior national team was preparing for the European Championships, because of her Hungarian name. They allegedly tied her to a heater, cut her hair, stripped her, forced her to drink alcohol, put ashes on her head and mime sex play with her.
“Ungure” they shouted at him as no one stopped his humiliation. The victim left the training camp the next day, went home to Lugos, where he told his parents what had happened.
In the information sent by the gymnastics association to the Romanian Olympic and Sports Commission (COSR), the incidents were explained by "educational deficiencies" and the age of the people involved. It is also worth noting that on March 18, the national coach Răzvan Șelariu proposed to the sports federation that the victim be sent from the national team because he is not improving, and at the same time "shows an inappropriate attitude and maintains a conflict situation with athletes and coaches". . On the same day, the parents of the young gymnast informed the association that the boys were abused by their older peers.
Since the people involved are minors, we did not name them on our portal, but we did write that the victim was not included in the European tour, but his abusers were. They allegedly apologized and promised it wouldn't happen again. On the other hand, the teenager's club coach could not answer what consequences the incident might have on the victim's sports performance. All that was known was that his parents wanted their child to be able to continue playing in his club in Lugosi while remaining part of the national team until his summer exams.
