Several other people were injured in the brutal attack.

A priest was stabbed several times while celebrating Mass in a Sydney church, the Telegraph reports. The incident comes just days after a man killed six people at a Westfield shopping centre.

The well-known priest was leading a service at the Church of Christ the Good Shepherd in Wakely, when a man approached the altar and stabbed him several times.

On the live broadcast, it was clear how a young man dressed in black approached Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel and stabbed him several times in the face and body, while onlookers tried to intervene.

Horrified screams were heard in the parish before the broadcast of the live Mass was immediately interrupted.

According to press reports, in addition to the priest, four other people were injured in the attack.

A New South Wales Ambulance spokesman said a man in his 50s had been taken to Liverpool Hospital with multiple stab wounds, news.com.au reported.

Three other people were also injured. A man in his 30s suffered multiple bruises, a man in his 20s suffered a cut to his hand and a man in his 60s suffered an injury to his arm, the report added.
