At the party's campaign launch on Friday, the president of Momentum boasted that he and Katalin Cseh played a major role in the isolation of Viktor Orbán in Europe.
Like Fidesz, Momentum also held its campaign opening event on Friday, at which, among other things, there was talk of EU policy, domestic domestic politics and whether they would team up with Péter Magyar. Anna Donáth explained at length that the party's two EP representatives, i.e. she and Katalin Cseh, played an important role in the "European isolation of Viktor Orbán".
According to Donáth, the government has fallen into a moral abyss, and he pointed to the pardon case and the disclosure of the home conversation made by Péter Magyar as the reason for this. The moral, intellectual and political foundations of the Orbán system have crumbled even in their own eyes. Let's say it: this is NER's golden moment"
- announced the leader of the party's EP list.
Will they unite with Péter Magyar's new party formation?
The momentous leader also spoke about Péter Magyar, regarding Judit Varga's ex-husband, stating that the new politician has significant merit in that he "pulled society out of political apathy and revived hope for a change of government". But he thought it important to note that "a good part of the cracks in the system were caused by Momentum." He also assured those who are suspicious of Péter Magyar of his understanding of the politician, because he still agrees with many elements of Fidesz's policy.
But many things are connected: Péter Magyar would also join the European Public Prosecutor's Office"
- declared Anna Donáth, and then added that they have a lot in common, as they would build a new Hungary and dismantle the current system. In his speech, Donáth stated that "those who vote for Momentum vote for Europe".
Together with Katalin Cseh, the EP representative of Momentum, we are not ashamed, but rather proud, of having played a part in the isolation of Viktor Orbán in Europe and in shaking the foundations of NER"
- said the president of the party, who made it clear that they would continue the same policy even after the EP elections, if the voters authorize them to do so. "Using European means, we will take our part in weakening and replacing the government by 2026," he added.
The president of Momentum also spoke, according to the MTI report, that just as Péter Magyar does not ask Ferenc Gyurcsány, the president of the DK, the "old left party absorbed by the DK" does not want to cooperate with Péter Magyar's movement either. He said that he understands Péter Magyar, he can only say to the "old left": their soul is on him. He stated: they continue to trust in partnership and cooperation, and are sure that "without Momentum, it is not possible to get out of the dead end of the Orbán system and find the road to Europe again".
This requires the most European party in Hungarian public life: Momentum"
he added.
In her speech, Katalin Cseh talked about how Momentum has become the most active and influential Hungarian party in the European Parliament in five years. According to the EP representative, the fight must be continued to make Hungary a European state of law again, and for this it must join the European Public Prosecutor's Office.
If the Orbán government does not do this voluntarily, then it should be a condition of EU funds!
he called out.
According to him, the EU is currently the best tool for representing the real national interest vis-à-vis the government.
