Europe and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization are preparing for a kind of world war, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Kossuth Rádió's Sunday Newspaper program.

Péter Szijjártó added that a significant number of European North Atlantic leaders suffer from war psychosis, they feel as if they are at war with Russia. We believe that what is happening in Ukraine is not our war, this is the biggest difference between Hungarian and North Atlantic political leaders, he noted.

He emphasized that we must concentrate on ending the war as soon as possible, every single day means more deaths and destruction, and brings the danger of the outbreak of a world war.

"Every single peace-loving person is waiting with bated breath for November, for the American presidential election, and for a peace-making president to win the election in the United States"

- he said, adding that a right-wing turn in the European Parliament elections and a pro-peace American president represent the best chance for peace.

The minister reminded: previously NATO's position was that the alliance is not part of the Russian-Ukrainian war, and that everything must be done to avoid a conflict between NATO and Russia. Now, several member states of NATO have started to change this, and they are forcing the coordinating role of the alliance in the delivery of weapons to Ukraine and in Ukrainian military training.

"We do not want to take part in such operations taking place on the territory of Hungary. The next few weeks will be spent with Hungary giving in, taking part in arms deliveries and training, but as long as we govern, this cannot happen."

he emphasized.

He also talked about how

since the beginning of the war, there has been a "compulsion to compete and comply" in Brussels on the part of the European Union, and the self-criticism that the Europeans cannot give as much help to Ukraine as the Americans has been voiced at many meetings of NATO's Foreign Ministers' Council.

He said that, as foreign minister, he took the position that it is not good to compete with the world's first military superpower, and that arms deliveries will only prolong the war, cause more deaths and escalation.

He explained: the arms shipments did not bring the war to a head, they only increased the amount of weapons dramatically. Neither side can win this war, it can only be ended by negotiations. The question of when the negotiations will start is the sooner the better.

"As decision-makers with governmental responsibility, our number one task is to preserve the safety of the Hungarian people, this is what it means if we can stay out of the war"

he declared. This was achieved for two years at the cost of amazing efforts, and it should remain so in the future, he added.
