In several capital districts and rural towns, the governing parties can win again due to the distortions of the left, Sámuel Ágoston Mráz, head of the Nézőpont Institute and Tibor Závecz, director of Závecz Research, pointed out at an event. According to the leader of Nézőpont, Fidesz became the candidate in the Várnegyed due to the conflicts surrounding Márta V. Naszályi, and the left can also bring down Ferencváros, as they are running two mayoral candidates who can take away votes from each other. According to the director of Závecz Research, the division of the left wing currently ruling Miskolc could also lead to the victory of Fidesz in the municipal elections in 2024, Magyar Nemzet reports.
A few weeks ago, Tibor Závecz felt that the same thing as in 2019 could be repeated in the capital's districts, but it is worth paying attention to two districts. One of them is the 1st district, where to this day unsettled conflicts surround the dialogue mayor Márta V. Naszályi, thanks to which the government side has a good chance to win back the district under the leadership of László Böröcz. The other is VIII. district, where the current mayor András Pikó did not win a big victory in 2019, and taking back the politically divided district is a matter of prestige for Máté Kocsis, but the situation will presumably not change in Józsefváros - he opined.
In addition to these, the director of Závecz Research highlighted the IX. district, where the representatives of the party grouping, whose list is headed by Mayor Gergely Karácsony in the capital, left separately. What happened here was that the DK-MSZP-PM coalition nominated Ferenc Gegesy of the former SZDSZ for the post of leader of Ferencváros against the current left-wing mayor, Krisztina Baranyi, who topped the Hungarian Kétfarkú Kutya Párt's capital list.
This could easily split the opposition votes, and the government candidate could come in third place.
In addition, there are clashes between XII. also in the district, where the DK and Kutyapár are fighting each other, so there is a greater chance that Fidesz's Krisztina Fonti will be the runner-up, Tibor Závecz pointed out.
He also mentioned that among the rural towns, interesting things can happen in Miskolc In the county seat of Borsod, the Gyurcsány party is fielding a doctor as a candidate against the current left-wing mayor, and the city has always been characterized by a mixed division from a political point of view, so it will be difficult for the opposition to retain it, and Fidesz now has a greater chance of entering the fray. In addition to Miskolc, Győr is also worth paying attention to , where there are many candidates, and therefore it is more difficult to calculate how the city's leadership will develop.
