A database for the discovery and publication of the losses of the Hungarian military past will be made available, said Lt. Col. Roland Maruzs, Acting Commander of the Military History Institute and Museum of the HM, on the current channel M1. The database can also be searched for the name of the victim, as well as the place and time of the death.

The museum and the Hungarian National Archives recently made the database of Hungarian military casualties of the 1848-49 revolution and war of independence available to the public online, which currently contains the data of 21,000 fallen soldiers out of a total of around 30-40,000 - explained Roland Maruzs .

This is part of a process that has been ongoing since 2012, in which military loss data from the Second World War is also processed. The database is not complete: a total of about 1.5 million data on about 350,000 Hungarian dead from the First World War and about 76,000 from the Second World War have been processed so far. In addition, the processing of the data of those who died in Soviet prisoners of war has also begun, so far around 66,000 victims have been identified. The database can also be searched for the name of the victim, as well as the place and time of the death, said the expert.

He added that they rely primarily on Hungarian and Viennese archival sources, but also ask for the help of all those who know about those who are not included in the database, but can be credibly proven with documents to be Hungarian military victims.

Almost every Hungarian family suffered losses during the two world wars. "It is very important to remember the soldiers who sacrificed the most, their lives, for the country," said the acting commander.
