"The train has no brakes" - this is the title of the opponent's Bietigheim fans' song, which they played before the start, but ETO was still able to stop their favorite team. It wasn't even four and a half minutes into the game, and the Germans were already asking for time.

Audi ETO KC from Győr won the women's handball Champions League for the sixth time, as it defeated Germany's Bietigheim 30-24 in Sunday's final of the final four in Budapest.

The Győrs - who were never behind in the entire match - played in the final for the tenth time in the most prestigious European cup series and won for the sixth time - for the first time since 2019. Previously, they were finalists in the EHF Cup four times and in the KEK once, but they lost them.

Result, final:

Rinka Duijndam, who left in the summer, Melinda Szikora, Isabelle Andersson and Danick Snelder, who was recovering after knee surgery, were missing from the Hungarian team, so the two Hungarian legionnaires, Dorottya Faluvégi and Noémi Háfra, were also in the team this time, although the latter did not play in the end .

Thanks to Bietigheim reaching the final, after TV Giessen-Lützellinden, who finished with the silver medal in 1992, there was once again a German team in the final of the most prestigious women's European club series.

"The train has no brakes" - this is the title of the Bietigheim fans' song, which was played before the start, but ETO was still able to stop their favorite team. Not even four and a half minutes had passed in the match, and the Germans had already asked for a time-out, because they started somewhat tired and nervous. Győr, playing in the upper hand, took a 3-1 lead, then did not find the back of the net for five minutes, but then made its leadership confident with a 5-1 series. In the next ten minutes, the goals fell alternately, and at the break ETO led 17-12, which defended so effectively that it had five more shots on goal than its opponent in the first half.

The Győrs didn't play flawlessly either, at the beginning of the second act they already had ten bad shots, but with a 3-0 series they already had the advantage of seven hits. The defending German champion closed with a 3-0 series, but this was the last moment when he could still hope for a miracle. In the last quarter of the match, Győr was again more confident and efficient, and in the last minutes already started to celebrate another great success in the club's history on the pitch.

In the 49th minute, Nadine Szöllősi-Schatzl made the score 24-18, this was ETO's 500th goal since 2014 in the final four.

Silje Solberg contributed to the success with 42 percent efficiency and 16 saves. On the other side, Gabriela Dias Moreschi finished with six saves and Sarah Nörklit Lönborg with four saves.

Line Haugsted, who left in the summer, Nadine Szöllősi-Schatzl, Ana Gros, Stine Oftedal, Silje Solberg and Yvette Broch played their last match in the colors of the recent BL winner.

The two teams met each other for the fifth time and the Kisaföldi could celebrate their fifth success. ETO ended this year's BL season with 14 wins, one draw and three losses.

Earlier, for 3rd place:
Team Esbjerg (Denmark) - Metz HB (France) 37-33 (18-18)
