More Chinese investments came to Hungary in 2023 than to the three major economies, Germany, France and the United Kingdom combined, and thanks to the strong Hungarian-Chinese relations, this ratio may continue to grow.
Last year, 44 percent of all Chinese direct investment in Europe went to Hungary - the study explaining the fact is written one after another by Europe's leading newspapers, such as Der Spiegel. Thanks to the strong Hungarian-Chinese relations, this ratio may increase further in the next period.
Of course, Der Spiegel tries to reframe the factual figures to mean that China wants to gain more influence in the European Union through Hungary, which "shows autocratic and anti-democratic tendencies".
