Due to the failure of the one-shot Western coronavirus vaccine, instead of the 400,000 Chinese vaccines due by the end of April, one million will arrive in Hungary, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade announced on Saturday in a video uploaded to his social media page.

Péter Szijjártó said that the virus can be defeated if the Hungarian people can be vaccinated as soon as possible, and this requires vaccines, and a lot of them.

"Unfortunately, in the recent period, we have seen that the procurement by Brussels is stuck, it usually happens that fewer vaccines arrive than what was previously promised, contracted, or expected, or complete shipments fail. This is now the case with about half a million Western vaccines as well"

the minister pointed out.

He added that this is why the government held talks with its Chinese partners about bringing some of the vaccine shipments due in May forward to April. Thus, in addition to the 400,000 vaccines due in April, the Chinese partners will advance 600,000 vaccines from the May delivery.

This means that instead of the 400,000 due by the end of April, one million Chinese vaccines will arrive in two installments, said Péter Szijjártó, adding that this way they can compensate for the lost western shipment.
