The Forum of Hungarian Representatives of the Carpathian Basin (KMKF) monitors with growing concern the fate of the Transcarpathian Hungarians, whose existence and future are threatened, and supports all steps aimed at peace as soon as possible.

In the resolution adopted at the board's plenary session in Budapest on Thursday, the Hungarian nationalities express their solidarity with the national communities that are most vulnerable in the conflict, and above all with the Transcarpathian Hungarians, who are facing extraordinary challenges, and who, in the protracted war situation, wage a determined struggle for the recovery of their rights, for the institutions that protect their identity, and for the survival of the community in the homeland.

Warning of the danger of further escalation of the war, the KMKF once again condemns the military aggression against Ukraine, rejects all forms of violence and supports all steps aimed at stopping the bloodshed and bringing peace as soon as possible by prioritizing diplomatic action

– is stated in the document sent to MTI.

In all situations, the KMKF stands for ensuring the conditions for prosperity in the homeland, which can be facilitated by the universal recognition and enforcement of the right to national identity. The organization welcomes the morally based, forward-looking statements of His Holiness Pope Francis on the right to remain in one's homeland, which has not yet been codified internationally, but is considered deeply rooted and widespread.

The KMKF congratulates the electoral successes of Transylvanian and southern organizations, be it municipal, parliamentary or European parliamentary contests, which prove the necessity and effectiveness of ethnic politicization.

The forum welcomes the representatives who won a mandate in the European Parliament elections and are preparing to serve the Hungarian national regions, and urges Hungarian cooperation in Europe. The tools and mechanisms that protect the identity of national minorities, which were created and operated by the Council of Europe, which is 75 years old this year, are a good basis for this, including the resolutions and recommendations adopted on this topic at the parliamentary assembly, the resolution reads.

The KMKF invites the Hungarian government and the Parliament to pay special attention during the Hungarian presidency of the European Union to the support of any initiative that intends to incorporate the Council of Europe's minority protection instruments into the EU legal order.

The organization welcomes the establishment of the working group of the Hungarian communities of the Federative Union of European Nationalities (FUEN), which increases the international visibility of the Hungarian nationalities in Transylvania, the Highlands, the Southern Region, the Subcarpathians, Croatia and the Murávidé region and strengthens their power to assert their interests on the European scene. It encourages and supports FUEN's efforts to win the sympathy and support of the new European Commission, which will be established in the autumn, for the minority protection goals also displayed in the European citizens' initiatives.

The KMKF also invites the Hungarian government and the Parliament to commemorate the Andreanum, issued 800 years ago, in a dignified manner, this document of outstanding legal historical importance, which created territorial autonomy and established community rights in an exemplary manner, thus promoting the self-identity and survival of the Transylvanian Saxons for centuries. on a document that enriches Europe's cultural heritage.
