In Germany, the new naturalization law entered into force on Thursday, which facilitates naturalization and enables dual citizenship.

Cicero reported .

First of all, the law makes naturalization faster. To obtain citizenship, it will be enough to stay in Germany for five years instead of eight years.

In some cases, this can be shortened to three years, for example if someone can demonstrate exceptional academic or professional performance. The new law also facilitates the acquisition of dual citizenship. Until now, non-EU citizens could not be dual citizens, this will no longer be the case.

The reform also recognizes the contribution of so-called guest workers who moved to Germany for work in the 1950s and 1960s and have been living there ever since.

The law also waives the passing of the intermediate German language exam,

according to which it will be enough to obtain citizenship if someone communicates in German without any major problems.
