Almost 1,900 properties were owned by around 600 settlements, with a registered value of almost HUF 1.7 billion.
The government commissioner responsible for the development of modern settlements told MTI on Monday that small settlements can get state real estate assets free of charge as part of the Hungarian village program.
Alpár Gyopáros wrote in a statement sent by the Prime Minister's office: the government, in cooperation with the Hungarian National Asset Management Co.
transfers state-owned real estate that is not necessary for the performance of state tasks free of charge to the local governments of settlements with a population of less than five thousand and between five and fifteen thousand inhabitants.
Thanks to the support, almost 1,900 properties became the property of around 600 settlements, the registered value of which is almost HUF 1.7 billion, added the government commissioner.
He recalled: as early as 2021, the government provided settlements with less than 5,000 inhabitants the opportunity to take ownership of state real estate free of charge as part of the Hungarian village program, at which time HUF 1.2 billion real estate assets were transferred. Due to the success of the support, a decision was made in 2023 to continue and extend the program to settlements with between 5 and 15 thousand inhabitants.
"The transfer of real estate represents a unique opportunity for the affected settlements, through which not only the assets of the municipality increase, but also the opportunity to utilize them for community purposes"
Alpár Gyopáros pointed out.
He also stated that on July 1, 2024, the properties and the state-owned assets related to them and located on them will be owned free of charge, at their registered value, by the local governments specified in the government decision.
