The court annulled the previous decision of the Capital Assembly.

The Capital Court of Budapest ruled in favor of the Government Office of the City of Budapest, according to which the XIII. the name of Gyula Horn promenade in the district, therefore repealed the provision of , the government office told MTI on Tuesday.

    It was written that the tribunal, referring to the relevant decree of the Local Government Act, confirmed that

"public space or public institution may not bear the name of a person who, in the XX. participated in the foundation, construction or maintenance of autocratic political systems of the 20th century".

The board also found that the Metropolitan Municipality should have obtained the opinion of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA), as there was doubt as to whether the name of the public area complies with the provisions of the law, as evidenced by the minutes, they explained.

Contrary to the request of the government office, the Metropolitan Municipality did not ask for the MTA's opinion, and did not comply with the March 2023 legality request to change the name of the public space, therefore the Budapest Metropolitan Government Office turned to the Metropolitan Court in April 2023, the announcement states.
