Our Olympic and world champion classics also fought the flood. State Secretary for Sports Dr. Ádám Schmidt managed the campaign.
Due to the Danube flood, among the Budapest facilities operated by the National Sports Agency
the Hajós Alfréd National Sports Pool is in a critical situation, and it will also have to be closed on Tuesday.
"According to the forecast, a protective dam with a height of more than one meter will have to be built from sandbags along the Margitsziget running circuit. Tamás Dala, the operations director of the swimming pool, informed the sports management that more than one million sandbags are needed to surround the island, so any help would be useful, so early on Tuesday morning we rushed to the scene with the excellence of the Hungarian sports life," said Ádám Schmidt.
In addition to the athletes of the Sports Squadron of the Hungarian Armed Forces, such well-known classics as Vogel Soma, the national team goalkeeper of Ferencváros, and the new captain of the green and whites will play against DVSE tonight in Debrecen!
The water polo players were also represented by Olympic champion Norbert Madaras (not incidentally: president of the association), Olympic champion Tamás Märcz (former national team captain of the men's national team), and world champion Miklós Gór-Nagy. Apart from them, classics such as four-time Olympic champion swimmer Tamás Darnyi and World Cup bronze medalist hurdler Balázs Baji also took part in the fight against the flood.
The Sports State Secretary highlighted:
It is an extremely good feeling to experience that you can count on the actors of the domestic sports life in any situation".
Ádám Schmidt emphasized on his social media page: "During the closure of the Hajós Swimming Pool, we took care of accommodation for our athletes so that they can continue training".
