The prime minister delivers a speech on the outdoor stage of the Millenáris on the 68th anniversary of the 1956 revolution and freedom struggle.
The "Commemoration Day of the 1956 Revolution and Freedom Struggle" series of celebrations will begin on Tuesday, October 22 at 2 p.m. with a wreath-laying ceremony at the 1956 University of Applied Sciences monument, the Government Information Center announced.
At the commemoration of the University, Gergely Gulyás, the minister in charge of the Prime Minister's Office, will give a ceremonial speech at 3 p.m.
After that, at 4:00 p.m., a torchlight procession with 2,500 students, young people dressed in period clothes, and Csepel trucks will start to Bem Square.
Speaker of the House László Kövér will speak at the Bem tér ceremony starting at 5 p.m. Between 5:35 p.m. and 11 p.m., the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be decorated with light painting.
On October 23, the program will start with a ceremonial flag-raising at Kossuth Lajos Square at 9:00 a.m. After that, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., as part of the Open Parliament program, those interested can view the Díszslépcsőház, the Dome Hall, the Szent Koroná, and the period-honored Csepel truck on display in Kossuth Lajos tér. There will be an all-day commemoration without protocol at plot 301.
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán will give a speech at the official ceremony starting at 10:30 a.m. in Millenáris Park.
The special guests of the ceremony will be those who participated in the defense against the Danube flood in September and their family members.
President of the Republic Tamás Sulyok will give a speech at the ceremony in Müpa at 6 p.m. The event will be broadcast live by MTVA.
The building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the building K of the Budapest University of Technology will be decorated with light painting between 4 and 11 p.m. The House of Terror Museum will be open to the public free of charge between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
