The American ambassador in Budapest once again attacked the Hungarian government: in his opinion, urging peace talks as soon as possible is not a good approach. Regarding the case of the Hungarian minorities in Ukraine, he said that the USA is willing to deal with it and help if "it is a serious problem".

On the official website of the US Embassy in Hungary , Ambassador David Pressman's opening speech was published at a panel discussion on Hungarian-Ukrainian relations.

The ambassador began his speech by reminding the participants of the event:

"As we gather here this morning in beautiful springtime Budapest, Ukrainians in neighboring Ukraine are defending themselves and their country against a senseless aggression" . He added that the United States wants peace, to promote which nations must stand united "against the warmongers."

Pressman says one should be wary of cynical political efforts that

"which use the term "peace" as a weapon" and suggest that "those who stand by the attacked victims, (...) somehow stand in the way of peace".

He sees only one person who can end the war: Vladimir Putin.

He thinks about the Hungarian government's peace efforts:

"It's cynical to demand a ceasefire when it's not your country, nearly 20 percent of which is occupied by a foreign occupying army."

He said that urging peace talks as soon as possible is not a good approach, and Putin should not be trusted either.

“The United States wants a just and lasting peace. And that is precisely why we stand shoulder to shoulder with the victims, with Ukraine"

- he said, and added that standing up for Ukraine is "a quest for unity against those who would redraw Europe's borders by force and unilaterally".

According to the ambassador, there is a lot of disinformation about Ukraine circulating in Hungary, so the event is a good opportunity for Hungarians to broaden their horizons.

Regarding the issue of the Hungarian minorities in Ukraine, he said that the USA is willing to deal with it and help if "it is a serious problem" . He added that it was disturbing

"Hungarian officials use the NATO alliance as a tool to address these bilateral concerns".

"Let's pay attention to addressing the serious concerns raised by the Hungarians and stand resolutely with the Ukrainians, they will repel the Russian invasion. And in the meantime, let's stick to the facts," he concluded.

Well, yes, the Hungarians

they are consciously blocking the Ukrainians' NATO accession cases, as this is the only method that can be used to force them to return the rights of the Transcarpathian Hungarians.

I'm sorry, but it's still cynical on the part of the ambassador to point out that they assert interests and protect values in the case of the human rights of Hungarians across the border, when the USA is currently on a human rights offensive, and when its interests demand it, it also stands up strongly for values, or at least for alleged values.

Pressman and American diplomacy can make an LGBTQ offensive even among their own allies, they can threaten for the sake of any number of multigenerational rights, but can't the Hungarians hold themselves accountable for self-evident, first-generation human rights in Ukraine? What is this?
