The US Secretary of Justice personally authorized the search of former US President Donald Trump's residence in Florida, Merrick Garland himself said in a short press statement on Thursday, which is the first official announcement since the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) took action earlier this week.

The minister said: they are working on making public the documents related to the house search, the search order and the report on it. The court documents will speak on behalf of the Ministry of Justice, he said. He added:

his ministry noticed the need to publish the documents, also in light of the fact that the former president made public the fact of the official action, as well as taking the public interest into account.

He said a request for declassification has been filed with the appropriate Florida district court. On Monday afternoon, FBI investigators appeared unannounced at Donald Trump's residence in Florida, the Mar-a-Lago property, and searched the property, from which, according to unconfirmed reports, they left with 15 boxes of documents. Unnamed official sources reported to the American press that the measure was aimed at finding classified documents from Donald Trump's presidency.
