The Government Office of the Capital City of Budapest has announced that it has initiated proceedings against nine Budapest municipalities due to illegal fee increases affecting the population.

Eight Budapest district municipalities and the Capital City Municipality ignored the government's order that they cannot increase the population's burdens until the end of 2021. In order to comply with the government's decision Government Office of Budapest examined the decisions of all the capital's districts and found that eight left-wing district governments (Districts I, IV, VII, VIII, IX, XI, XIV, XVIII) and the Metropolitan Municipality also violated the law when they decided to increase residential fees and expand the scope of obligations.

The government office therefore launched a total of 13 legal proceedings. Unlawful decisions also affect parking fees, rents, communal tax, registry fees, child feeding fees and public space usage fees.
