The recent Brussels report positively mentions Ukraine's efforts to protect the rights of national minorities, but the events of the past few months show something quite different.

Ukraine ticked off previously unfulfilled steps indicated in the European Commission's 2022 opinion, according to the updated report on EU enlargement, which Unian reviewed, according to which Kyiv continued to promote the integrity of the judiciary and strengthen the anti-corruption institutional framework.

In addition, a separate paragraph positively mentions Ukraine's efforts to protect the rights of national minorities, which the Hungarian government particularly insisted on. Moreover,

according to the report, the restrictions on basic rights related to the martial law remained proportionate in Ukraine.

The statements are questionable even if they are put mildly, since Kiev is deploying language inspectors to force the Transcarpathian population to use the Ukrainian language as well, and border guards have not shot a person fleeing the draft for the first time.

In any case, Volodymyr Zelenskiy promised the Transcarpathians that he would help find solutions to the problems, because he is aware of both the challenges and opportunities of the region.
