The presidential election in the United States is officially over. Of course, there are no official results yet, but quite a lot has already emerged on the American election map. Donald Trump is currently leading the race for the White House over Kamala Harris. Based on the highly processed partial results, the fate of the so-called electoral votes has practically been decided in several states.

In the country, the new president is elected on the basis of 538 electoral votes, that is, the candidate who obtains at least 270 of them wins. Each state has a certain number of votes, usually all of them go to the candidate who received the most votes.

In the current election, the battle between the two presidential candidates, Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Kamala Harris, will be decided by the political battleground states - Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin - according to preliminary reports. The morning partial results in these states showed close competition between the two candidates.

Among the states in which, according to Central European time, the vote tally approached or exceeded 90 percent by the morning hours,

Florida (30 electoral votes), Texas (40), Ohio (17), Indiana (11), Tennessee (11), South Carolina (9), Kentucky (8), Louisiana (8), Oklahoma (7), Iowa (6), in Arkansas (6) and West Virginia (4) Donald Trump, in New York (28 votes), Illinois (19), Maryland (10), Rhode Island (4), Vermont (3) and Delaware- in (3) Kamala Harris won.

On the day of the vote, both candidates spoke optimistically about their own chances. If Donald Trump wins, he could become the first president in more than a hundred years to be re-elected after missing a term, and Kamala Harris would become the first woman to hold the US presidency.
