This can greatly contribute to the management of the housing crisis.

A student city is being built in Budapest with 12,000 dormitories, Alexandra Szentkirályi, the president of the Budapest government, on her social media page

"The housing crisis in Budapest mostly causes problems for those young people and students who do not get a dormitory during their university years. Housing costs them hundreds of thousands a month while they are still studying," said Szentkirályi.

According to him, instead of doing nothing and selling out the dormitories, new and better dormitories are needed in the capital. He added that the government is open to the proposal of the Fidesz faction in Budapest.

In mid-October, the government presented its New Economic Action Plan, one of which includes the expansion of dormitories for higher education students.

The government is committed to the expansion and development of dormitories, Minister of Culture and Innovation Hankó Balázs said on Monday in Budapest.

The minister referred to the Budapest Declaration, according to which a turnaround in competitiveness is needed in Europe. For a turn whose watchword is economic neutrality. "It is in our interest in Hungary to trade with the West and the East at the same time, thus strengthening families and the economy, thus giving careers to our young people," he said, adding: the success of the youth is the success of the nation.

As he said, the competitiveness turn in higher education has already taken place, the renewed universities are cooperating and thinking together with the actors of the economy.

The minister pointed out that

the university model change "is not to everyone's liking, there is a constant headwind from Brussels", but despite this, Hungarian higher education performs excellently. Twelve Hungarian universities are in the top five percent of the world, one of our universities is in the top one percent of the world.

According to Balázs Hankó, Hungarian higher education is attractive, for the second year already more than 100,000 students have been admitted to universities and colleges.

Referring to a survey conducted among students, the minister said that 8 out of 10 students are satisfied with the infrastructure of higher education, however, student feedback shows that there is still work to be done in the issue of dormitories.

That is why one of the issues of the national consultation deals with dormitories, and if the people support the government, then "we are ready for the next big step in renewed higher education to be the expansion of dormitories and the improvement of their quality", declared the minister.
