According to press reports, the President of the United States has authorized the Ukrainians to attack the territory of Russia with American missiles.
The Ukrainians have been begging for it for a long time, and now Biden has left it here as a parting gift: Ukraine has received permission to use long-range weapons to attack enemy positions inside Russia. Putin is preparing to retaliate, a new chapter in the war is beginning.
The Biden administration is giving Kiev permission to use long-range weapons to attack enemy positions inside Russia in response to North Korea sending thousands of troops to help Moscow retake territory seized from Ukraine, senior U.S. officials say in a lengthy report by The Washington Post. according to his writing.
The easing of restrictions on this until now, which allows Ukraine to use the army's tactical missile system (ATACMS) against targets inside Russia, is a major turning point not only in American policy, but also in the course of the war.
The Biden administration justifies the measure by saying that the ten thousand North Korean soldiers already stationed in Kursk will be followed by new units, which must be prevented by all means.
The move comes two months before Donald Trump's return to the White House, who already indicated in his campaign that he wants to end the Russian-Ukrainian war.
According to the informants who requested anonymity, the deployment of the ATACMS system, which also serves to deter Pyongyang in the future
for now, it is only focused on the Kursk region and its surroundings, but the scope of use can easily expand over time.
The White House and the Pentagon have not yet commented on the matter, just as the Ukrainian presidential office did not want to comment on the leaked news.
Until recently, however, the Biden administration strongly opposed Ukraine's use of ATACMS missile systems to attack Russian territory, fearing that this would lead to heavy retaliation from the Kremlin. Ukraine has been begging for permission for months, and now the time has come to grant it: the West saw the arrival of the North Koreans in October as an escalation on Putin's part, which, according to the USA, demands retaliatory measures.
The White House, American officials also say, wants to put Ukraine in the best possible position before the peace negotiations, which Trump is expected to lead when he begins his term of office. At the same time, Biden committed himself to increasing aid to Ukraine even before the elections, thus trying to consolidate his legacy.
"President Biden has decided we're going to push every dollar we have out the door from now until January 20," Secretary of State Antony Blinken told reporters Wednesday in Brussels, where he met with his European counterparts to discuss how to support Ukraine after Trump's victory.
Another U.S. official said Biden's authorization to use ATACMS "will have a very concrete effect" on the battlefield.
"If the reports are true, this could provide operational advantages for Ukraine, allowing it to better defend itself and hold onto its territory in Kursk, as well as help offset Russia's enhanced advantage with the North Koreans on this part of the front," stated Michael Kofman, Russian and Ukrainian military expert.
However, Putin has previously clearly indicated that he sees the use of ATACMS as a red line that "changes the essence, the nature of the conflict" and warned
that Russia will retaliate if this is used.
Later that month, he also revised Russia's nuclear doctrine, which many interpreted as a veiled threat to deploy American-supplied long-range weapons on Russian soil. In other words, they write in the article, the new chapter of the war has thus begun.
