The Hungarian EU commissioner-designate received the approval of the European Parliament's specialist committee to become a member of the next European Commission.

After the coordinators of the competent committees of the European Parliament voted on Wednesday to support the Hungarian commissioner candidate, Csaba Dömötör, a member of the European Parliament (EP) of Fidesz, told Hungarian journalists: Olivér Várhelyi can be an experienced, competent and committed member of the European Commission. He proved this in the last five years as Commissioner for Enlargement, and he proved it when he spent hours answering the often personal questions of MEPs.

"No catch was found at Olivér in Várhely. His was one of the best, if not the strongest, performance," said Dömötör, adding: Várhelyi answered all questions in detail and proved the experience he has accumulated in the last five years as a Hungarian member of the European Commission. .

The European Parliament delegation of Fidesz congratulates him from the bottom of its heart, said Csaba Dömötör.

The Fidesz EP representative said that they tried to hinder the approval of Olivér Várhelyi's mandate for political reasons.

Csaba Dömötör said, "Since they couldn't get hold of him with questions, they did it with a political deal", and then explaining the details, he said that the European People's Party (EPP) already made a deal with the left-wing factions before the hearing to ensure that the Hungarian commissioner candidate.

With this, the Commissioner's hearing was also made part of the pressure exercise against Hungary.

Csaba Dömötör called it telling that, while the EP representatives belonging to the political pact obliged Oliver Várhelyi to ask additional questions, during the evaluation meetings they did not deal at all with the answers that the Hungarian commissioner-designate sent them with a 24-hour deadline.

This also shows that, contrary to the rules and expectations, they did not look at the suitability and the task to be solved, but at the possibility of applying pressure - pointed out Dömötör, and then stated that the primary responsibility for this rests with the European People's Party and the Tisza Party, which has supported it all along. this procedure.

The whole procedure was extremely unworthy of the European Parliament and all the values that are so often referred to here in this house, he said.

He also emphasized: the result is that "the extremely unworthy procedure has come to an end", and the EU institutions can deal with essential issues. Europe is facing multiple crises, its competitiveness is declining, its economy is stagnating, the Schengen system is collapsing, and in recent days, serious escalation steps have taken place on the battlefield near the eastern borders.

A solution should be found for these crisis symptoms, rather than turning the European Union institutions into a political circus, he said.

If all commissioner candidates have received the support of the EP's committees, then the European Parliament can approve the entire board of commissioners at its meeting in Strasbourg next week, informed Csaba Dömötör.

As Hungarian EU Commissioner, Olivér Várhelyi was responsible for enlargement and neighborhood policy for the past five years. If the European Commission approves the European Parliament, he will be able to lead the portfolio of commissioners responsible for health and animal welfare
