Even though the Budapest subways are swimming in filth, this does not hit the threshold of irritation for the Tisza Party and Karácsony.

Gergely Karácsony's city administration and the Tisza Party are silent on the issue of closing the subways at night. Alexandra Szentkirályi announced on Saturday to remedy the problem

the Fidesz faction in the capital proposes in the general assembly that, where possible, the underpasses should be closed at night.

As is well known, Budapest passers-by are most bothered by the hygiene problems caused by the homeless homeless in the capital's subways.

There are places where, according to people, the presence of illuminated homeless people has become a part of everyday life, there are regular meetings, and drug addicts hang out in the underpasses, in the light of which the proposal of the Fidesz fraction, if implemented, could improve the situation.

The Magyar Nemzet contacted Gergely Karácsony's city administration and the Tisza Party to see if they support the initiative.

However, it seems that the poor state of the underpasses does not hit the threshold of stimulation for any of them enough to answer the question meaningfully. The City Hall did not react, and the Tisza Party's response only attacked and slandered the newspaper in a personal tone.

Only former mayor candidate Dávid Vitézy, leader of the Podmaniczky Movement, answered. As he wrote, they agree with closing at night, "where and when this is possible".

At the same time, he added, the proposal was included in his mayor's program, which he claims he also proposed ten years ago as the head of the BKK. I am glad that Alexandra Szentkirályi is inspired by my program, which she supported with her withdrawal, he wrote.

In this regard, however, it should be noted that Alexandra Szentkirályi could not have needed much inspiration from Dávid Vitézy in this matter, because the one who had already partially implemented this was the Fidesz mayor of the 5th district, Péter Szentgyörgyvölgyi.

Back in 2016, the city manager initiated with the then mayor István Tarlós that the underpass in Ferenciek Square - which was completely renovated a few years earlier - should be closed at night, after the last subway has passed, and only opened before the arrival of the first subway, in order to preserve its condition. The closure did not cause any disruptions, as pedestrian crossings with zebra crossings and lights are also provided on the surface.
