The movie adaptation of Mihály Vörösmarty's classic will premiere next spring.
In the spring of 2025, the full-length animated film Csongor and Tünde will be released by Fórum Hungary. The fairy-tale film for families is based on the dramatic poem of Mihály Vörösmarty, based on the original figure designs of Attila Dargay, and was produced by Cinemon Entertainment, which also produces successful international works, with the support of the National Film Institute.
The dream of Attila Dargay, the creator of Lúdas Matyi, Vuk and Szaffi, among others, has come true decades ago with the film adaptation of Mihály Vörösmarty's classic.
Dargay's film plan was a true wishful thinking and he tried with great enthusiasm to transfer the wonderful story to a motion picture format, but the processing ran into obstacles in the 70s, so the idea remained in the drawer.
The large-scale plan was brought to life by the creative team of Cinemon Entertainment, who followed the spirit of Dargay when processing Vörösmarty's timeless poem, with the participation of Henrik Irén, who was the widow and co-creator of the emblematic figure of Hungarian animation.
The creators used Dargay's figure designs for the movie and are confident that they will appeal to today's audience and reach the hearts of children with the lovely visual world.
The magical story of Csongor and Tünde is about the search for happiness, courage and camaraderie, full of exciting adventures and trials.
The work fills a gap, as it makes it possible to make a fairy-tale worthy of Vörösmarty's richly symbolic original work available to today's Hungarian children.
Thanks to the film adaptation, a true classic comes to the cinema screen, with a visual world reminiscent of our favorite Hungarian fairy tales, the inevitable humorous characters and folktale motifs. By processing the nearly 200-year-old masterpiece, the creative team uses the rich toolbox of animation to recreate the atmosphere and plot of the original story.
The cartoon Csongor and Tünde, which is made using traditional 2D animation techniques, is produced under the leadership of producer Réka Temple, directed by Csaba Máli, one of the last Dargay students, and Zsolt Pálfi (Lengemesésék, The Adventures of King Solomon), the script is written by Krisztián Balassa, Irén Henrik is involved in the film as a consultant.
Csongor and Tünde is being realized with the support of the National Film Institute, the MÁV group is the main partner of the film in the campaign for the preservation of cultural values. The fairytale film will be shown in cinemas next spring, distributed by Fórum Hungary.
