Zsolt Semjén emphasized in his political assessment speech: if there is no strong KDNP, there is no strong Fidesz-KDNP alliance, and there is no victory in 2026.
Zsolt Semjén was re-elected president of the Christian Democratic People's Party (KDNP) for five years at the party's national caucus meeting in Budapest on Sunday.
Zsolt Semjén emphasized in his political assessment speech: if there is no strong KDNP, there is no strong Fidesz-KDNP alliance, and there is no victory in 2026.
The Deputy Prime Minister assessed that their responsibility goes far beyond responsibility towards a party, it is a responsibility towards the country and Europe.
Zsolt Semjén emphasized: the KDNP is the only historical party that their predecessors dared to found in the middle of the Arrow Terror and the Nazi occupation, exactly 80 years ago. Those who had the courage to speak out against the brown dictatorship had the moral basis to speak out against the red dictatorship as well, he said.
He pointed out:
the KDNP can exist for 80 years because they stand on the spiritual foundations of the founding fathers and represent the eternal truth in the world of changing everyday life.
He underlined: today, the KDNP is the only Christian Democratic Christian Social party in Hungary, and it has been this way since the beginning. Sándor Giesswein was a Catholic priest who proclaimed the Christian Social idea against both wild capitalism and Marxism, and the success of the 1947 election was given to the Barankovics party because it had a strong social background, he recalled.
He emphasized: in the colloquial sense of the political palette, the KDNP is a markedly center-right party, it believes in traditional Christian values, the protection of national identity, and the support of families is at the center of its policy. At the same time, in the labor-capital coordinate system, it also represents a moderately left-wing idea from the point of view of social justice, i.e. they do not deny capital, but are on the side of labor, he pointed out.
He also touched on the fact that the KDNP is the only worldview party. He explained: in order for a party to have political weight, it is necessary to obtain the social majority, but the latter's "taste" often does not meet the "church teaching". He put it this way: he personally does not want to lead a party that abandons professed Christianity, but he does not want to see the KDNP as a "religious zealot association" either. The historical solution: the alliance of Fidesz and KDNP, which is the most successful political construction in the history of Hungary and the European Union.
He talked about the fact that the KDNP was a member of the European People's Party and its predecessor parties for 34 years, if someone was "embedded", it was the KDNP. They persevered until the last moment, as long as they could hold their heads high - said Zsolt Semjén, adding: this People's Party is no longer the one they joined at the time, it was complete self-surrender, it was not possible to stay any longer, neither in terms of values nor due to domestic political considerations. The newly formed Patriots are today the third largest grouping in the European Parliament, but it is realistic that they will become the second largest representative group in the foreseeable future, he noted.
He also touched on the fact that Hungary is the subject of European politics today. Regarding the issue of migration, it is "clearer than the sun" that they were right, and time will prove this even more, he emphasized.
According to him, the situation is similar in the field of the gender lobby, transgender is so contrary to common sense and the order of nature that its absurdity becomes obvious to society as a whole.
According to Zsolt Semjén, "the most serious question is the question of war and peace". The Hungarian position is that the greatest evil is a nuclear war, which can occur if the third world war breaks out, which can happen if the situation escalates into a NATO-Russia conflict.
With the victory of Donald Trump in the American presidential election, it is realistic that the ceasefire negotiations can start, which has three advocates: the Pope, Viktor Orbán and Donald Trump. The ceasefire may be followed by peace negotiations, he said.
At the meeting on Sunday, János Latorcai was elected president of the national committee, Csaba Latorcai as executive vice president, and Imré Vejkey as party prosecutor. The vice presidents of the KDNP were Tristan Azbej, György Hölvényi, Hajnalka Juhász, Bence Rétvári, Miklós Seszták and Miklós Soltész. The vice-president of the party is automatically the current faction leader, in this case István Simicskó.
