"Today, the Hungarian government is Putin's biggest advocate/lawyer in Europe. It constantly seeks to prevent the introduction of new sanctions or to mitigate the sanctions already in place. The Hungarian EU Commissioner is deliberately trying to hinder our European integration in every possible way"

- Viktor Baloga, the mayor of Munkács between 1998 and 1999, began his outburst in his Facebook post.

I'll say something else, God forbid, if Putin wins - a part of Transcarpathia in one form or another would come under Hungary's control in exchange for his loyalty

- the former city manager, whose son now manages the city of Munkács, continued his thesis. On the basis of what he based his claim on, he provided only vague details. Without mentioning specifics, he mentioned the speech of the Prime Minister of Hungary on this topic, "which anyone can look up on the Internet."

Viktor Orbán has already spoken countless times that Hungary respects the territorial unity and sovereignty of Ukraine. The recording on which it is also easy to find on the world wide web

In front of Ukrainian cameras, Péter Szijjártó called nonsense the accusation that there could be a government in Hungary that would want Transcarpathia as its own because the majority of people there speak Hungarian.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade called this approach revisionism and rejected it. He added that Hungary has nothing to do with the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. – Transcarpathian Hungarians are loyal citizens of Ukraine, and the violation of their rights is completely unacceptable, just because Ukraine is in conflict with another country! he warned.

In his post, Viktor Baloga explained the toppling of the turul statue in Munkacs Castle by saying that the turul is a symbol of imperial ambitions and the Hungarian invasion of a part of Transcarpathia. "That is why the Hungarian ruling elite and our vátniks scattered in Transcarpathia [in Slavic slang a person with a Soviet identity, a Russian patriot, or in the Ukrainian context a person with a Soviet identity who questions the existence of Ukraine] can do whatever they want in their great indignation (or they can put their great indignation where they just want to), because they failed the test of good neighborliness and true friendship by choosing the side of evil. Just like the Hungarian leadership led by Miklós Horthy, which became a puppet state of Hitler's Germany," he continued his post.

However, the former mayor of Münkac did not mention that his son demolished the monument with a series of procedural errors and bypassing the law.

Just as he did not elaborate on the fact that the Munkacs political circle, known only as the Baloga clan in Transcarpathia, had had anti-Hungarian outbursts before.

For example, it was suggested that Ukrainian refugees be settled in the houses left vacant in Hungarian villages due to the emigration caused by the war, thereby changing the ethnic composition and proportions of the countryside.
