For the second time this year, the 13th pension will be paid to eligible pensioners. However, the pension supplement at the end of the year will be lower, 70 percent of the original 13th pension amount. On Tuesday, the Slovak parliament approved the relevant amendment to the law, which was discussed in an accelerated procedure. The proposal was supported by all 139 representatives present.

"Due to the significant increase in prices and services, the measures adopted so far to help pensioners are not sufficient," stated the justification of the Ministry of Labor. The ministry reminded that pensions rose by 1.3% in January this year, and in July the elderly received their 13th pension earlier, in the amount of between 50 and 300 euros.

Therefore, in traditional times, at the end of the year, without this amendment, they would no longer have received a pension supplement. According to the ministry, the listed measures partially compensated for the price increases for pensioners in the first half of the year. During this period, pensioner inflation was 11.8%.

"The increase in pensioner inflation continued in the second half of the year, according to the June 2022 forecast of the IFP financial analysis institute, it will be 12.4% overall. In the first 8 months of the year, pensioner inflation was 12.6% on average," the ministry said.

According to the original proposal, the new pension supplement would have been paid in November, but the parliament agreed with the amendment proposed by Miloš Svrček The repeated payment of the 13th pension supplement will cost the Slovak treasury 207.6 million euros.
