Prior to this, Volodymyr Zelenskyi complained that the Hungarian Prime Minister called Russian President Vladimir Putin on the phone.

At the end of the Hungarian EU presidency, we made new efforts for peace, the Hungarian Prime Minister wrote on the social portal X on Wednesday.

Viktor Orbán added, "we proposed a Christmas ceasefire and a significant exchange of prisoners today. It is unfortunate that Ukrainian President Zelensky clearly rejected and ruled this out" "We did what we could!" he wrote.

Prior to this, Volodymyr Zelenskyi complained that the Hungarian Prime Minister called Russian President Vladimir Putin on the phone. Zelenskiy wrote on several social media sites: "It is absolutely clear that achieving real peace and guaranteed security requires American determination, European unity and the commitment of all partners to comply with the UN Charter, its goals and principles."

He emphasized: one should not build one's own image at the expense of unity, but one should care about joint success, because the unity of Europe is what always brings success. He stated again that there can be no discussions about Russia's war against Ukraine without the involvement of Ukraine.

"We all hope that Viktor Orbán will at least not call (the former Syrian president) Assad in Moscow to listen to his hour-long lecture," the Ukrainian head of state noted.
