The Patriots for Europe and the European Conservatives and Reformers could merge, which would create the second strongest party alliance, writes Dániel Deák in his Facebook post.

As civilek.info also wrote yesterday, Giorgia Meloni announced that she will resign from the position of president of the European Conservatives and Reformers, and supports the nomination of former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki as her successor.

The decision could even result in the future merger of Viktor Orbán's Patriots for Europe and the right-wing European Conservatives and Reformers, which would make them the second strongest party coalition in the European Parliament with 162 representatives, while the European People's Party currently has 188 representatives.

The XXI. According to the senior analyst of Szazad Institute, there are several signs of this.

  1. On December 4, Viktor Orbán held a meeting with Giorgia Meloni in Rome, about which the Hungarian prime minister revealed only this much: "Old friendship, new chapter, big plans!" This can be a clear indication of a new type of cooperation.
  2. Mateusz Morawiecki, who was nominated for the presidential position by Giorgia Meloni, is an important ally of Viktor Orbán. When the Patriots for Europe party alliance was created, it was thought for a long time that he would also join together with the Polish PiS.
  3. One of the main reasons for the two separate party alliances is that Marine Le Pen and Giorgia Meloni do not like each other very much. At the same time, now that Meloni is stepping back, this obstacle can also be removed.
  4. The war will end soon, so this topic of conflict may disappear between them. Several members of the European Conservatives and Reformers (representatives of the Baltic countries or countries neighboring Russia) supported the continuation of the war on a national basis, which is why they disagreed with Viktor Orbán on this issue. However, with the victory of Donald Trump, the situation will change: negotiations with Putin on ending the war are expected to begin, so this obstacle between the two party alliances will also be removed.
  5. Viktor Orbán has said several times that his plan is for the patriots to form the strongest or at least the second strongest party family in the European Parliament, so they would have a strong influence on Brussels politics. If the two party confederations were to merge, this could be achieved, and even independents or the European People's Party could join the current 162 representatives of the two party confederations, thereby surpassing the European People's Party, which currently has 188 representatives.
