In Germany, the period of Christmas markets (end of November and December) is particularly dangerous, as this Christian holiday is a particularly attractive period for Islamist extremists.
On December 19, 2016, rejected Tunisian asylum seeker Anis Amri drove a truck into a crowded Christmas market in Berlin. The Islamist attacker killed 12 people and wounded 48 others. The Tunisian man was shot four days later in Italy during an identity check.
