The number of atrocities against MÁV workers performing public duties has increased sharply: some have been doused with beer, but there have also been stabbings.

János Lázár spoke out on his social media page about the atrocities against MÁV employees performing public duties, sharing the post of parliamentarian Bálint Nagy, who also called the increasingly common phenomenon deeply outrageous.

– Our employees are welcomed home by their families in the same way as the passengers who raise their hands to them! Our drivers and ticket inspectors work to operate traffic, but they are not contracted to fight with passengers who behave like animals! This behavior is shameful! stated the head of the ministry.

In the last two years, the number of abuses against colleagues performing public duties of the railway company has increased sharply again. In 2023, ticket inspectors suffered violent attacks 78 times, while by the middle of December 2024, there were 100 cases, of which 59 were assaults, 39 were acts of defamation, and in two cases, their colleague suffered an injury that took more than eight days to heal, and in one case, he was threatened with life.

In addition to verbal threats, there were several occasions when they were spat at or thrown at, but there was also an example of a ticket inspector doing his job being doused with beer. Aggressive passengers often do not stop at verbal violence, but push, hit, kick or even injure the ticket inspector with a knife.
