Today is Székely Freedom Day, which symbolizes the unity of the Székely people. The question is why exactly March 10 was marked as the memorial day. On January 6, 2012, the Székely National Council decided that this day was chosen because on March 10, 1854, three members of the Makk conspiracy, college teacher János Bágyi Török, lawyer Mihály Gálffy Martonosi and Nagyváradi landowner Károly Horváth, the Székely martyrs.
The movement known as Makk's Conspiracy started because after the suppression of the revolution of 1848 Hungarian society continued to hope that the freedom struggle could be restarted with foreign help. Artillery colonel József Makk was at the head of the movement, i.e. the organization of the armed uprising in Transylvania. In 1851, he visited Kossuth in Turkey and together they developed a plan for the uprising. On June 25, 1851, Kossuth gave Makk written authorization to prepare the movement. The authorization also extended to the reorganization of the army and the procurement of weapons and military equipment.
