It was said at today's press conference of the operational staff: we are in the rapidly rising part of the third wave of the epidemic. The British virus mutant is spreading very quickly, the number of active infected and hospitalized patients is increasing significantly, so everyone is asked to observe precautions.

The following data appeared this morning on the Koronavírus.gov.hu page: the number of deaths rose to 16,627, the number of those who have recovered is constantly increasing, and currently 346,904 are healthy again. Unfortunately, the number of actively infected people also increased: 134,652. 8,718 patients are being treated in hospitals, of which 949 are on ventilators.

Ágnes Galgóczi, the deputy head of the National Public Health Center, informed that the third wave of the epidemic is also underway elsewhere in Europe. The number of infected people is rising sharply in Italy and Germany as well. The average age of newly diagnosed patients is 46 years.

The number of vaccinated people is already over 1.2 million, and nearly 350,000 have received the second vaccination. Family doctors vaccinate with AstraZeneca this week. Szputnyik and Pfizer are available at the vaccination points. The vaccination program will continue over the weekend, Galgóczi pointed out.

Johnson & Johnson's vaccine will also arrive soon, of which Hungary has ordered 4.36 million units. One shot of this adenovirus-based vaccine is sufficient, it is delivered at minus 20 degrees, it can be stored for 2 years, but it can also be kept in the refrigerator for 3 months.

In response to a journalist's question, Ágnes Galgóczi said that in the case of AstraZeneca, the opinion of the European Medicines Agency is considered authoritative. Hundreds of thousands of people have already been vaccinated with this, and no problems have arisen, he emphasized.
