Ferenc Liszt's Coronation Mass will be performed at the Sunday concert of the Hungarian Radio Choir celebrating its 70th anniversary.

"The Magyar Rádió Choir is a very special ensemble, a shining star and one of the most important workshops of Hungarian musical life," Márton Devich, executive director of the Magyar Rádió Art Ensembles and channel director of Bartók Rádió, emphasized to MTI.
He added that it is not only the 70-year past full of unforgettable successes that makes it so, but also "the colorful, sensitive, refined performance, the musical intelligence and sophistication that has been characteristic of it since its inception and which, I confess, has no equal".
Márton Devich emphasized that the Radio Choir is a national treasure that we must take great care of and that we can be very proud of .
"The epidemic tried to cast a shadow on the 70-year anniversary, but the choir did not give up and stood up to sing, bringing joy, experience and hope to people when the pandemic was the most difficult.
This also showed how big a heart this ensemble has," described the choir's executive director. He added: although the jubilee concert can unfortunately still be held without an audience, with the help of the M5 cultural channel, the country and the musical life can celebrate together with the Hungarian Radio Choir. The celebratory concert will be hosted by Pesti Vigadó, where the choir will perform the Coronation Mass of Ferenc Liszt, accompanied by members of the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra.
In the evening, the certificate recognizing the Choir Artist of the Season will be presented, as well as farewell to retired colleagues. The Hungarian Radio Choir, founded in 1950, celebrates its 70th anniversary in the 2020/2021 season.
The world-renowned choir's repertoire covers all areas of classical choral music, including a cappella choral works, masterpieces of opera and oratorio literature from the Renaissance to the present day. Their concerts include works by both classical and contemporary composers, including compositions by the most famous Hungarian authors, Ferenc Liszt, Béla Bartók, Ernő Dohnányi, Zoltán Kodály, György Ligeti, György Kurtág, Péter Eötvös, János Vajda, György Orbán. During its seventy years of existence, numerous radio and television recordings and more than 80 records were made with the participation of the choir.

The concert will be broadcast live by Bartók Rádió on Sunday from 7:30 p.m., and on the M5 cultural channel from 9 p.m. on May 12.
