The State Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office responsible for church and ethnic relations announced yesterday in the village of Úny in the Komárom-Esztergom county that both churches of the settlement will receive renovation support.

Miklós Soltész said renovation program affecting 39 settlements in the county, in addition to the larger cities, mostly includes 30 Catholic, 13 Reformed, and 3 Lutheran churches in smaller villages in grants of 667 million forints. Within this, the Reformed church of the Úny village receives 15 million forints, and the Catholic church 10 million forints.

The state secretary explained that the government's goal with the church renovation program is to retain the population of smaller settlements, as these investments fill their everyday lives with life, preserve the community and Christianity.

In ten years, in Hungary and in the Hungarian-inhabited areas of the Carpathian basin, more than three thousand churches were renovated together with the churches and municipalities, and more than one hundred and fifty new churches were built in the region.

The almost HUF 26 billion subsidy provided by the government , he added.
