In the county of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, churches and religious institutions will be renovated at a cost of HUF 2.8 billion in the church renovation program, the county is in first place in the country, said the State Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office responsible for church and ethnic relations at a press conference in Sajóvámos on Friday.

Miklós Soltész added: they are trying to have local businesses do this work.

The State Secretary announced that 1,800 churches across the Carpathian Basin, 400 across the border, and the rest in Hungarian settlements will be renovated with almost HUF 26 billion.

He emphasized that small settlements are just as important to the government as the capital or big cities, because while before 2010 the government at that time was thinking about the atrophy of villages, "now we can announce that a huge change has taken place, we honor the people living in the villages, the people living in the small settlements deserve a lot of respect" ".

Speaking about Borsod, Miklós Soltész also said that 197 churches will be renovated here, 101 Catholic, 92 Reformed, 3 Lutheran and one Jewish house of worship in 170 settlements.

Zoltán Demeter (Fidesz), the parliament representative of the region, spoke about the fact that the churches of three parishes in Sajóvámos will be renovated, 42 parishes in his constituency took advantage of this opportunity provided by the government, spending HUF 590 million for this.

Churches always give people strength and hope, they carry lasting value, they take their part in social tasks, they maintain schools, nursing homes, social institutions, hospitals - the politician stressed, adding: the government sees churches as partners.
