Since the eradication of the Calais "jungle" in 2016, there have been no such serious clashes between migrants and the French police as in recent days.

Based on press reports and police reports, around 300 migrants armed with iron rods attacked law enforcement officers. As a result of the migrant attack, 32 police officers were injured. The local right-wing politicians are demanding the liquidation of the new emerging migrant camp from the French interior minister, because they believe that this is the only way to prevent the creation of a new "jungle".

From Tuesday to Wednesday in Calais, France, 50 illegal migrants tried to break into the port area, presumably in order to use some kind of vehicle - ship or truck - to head towards the shores of the United Kingdom, the Franceinfo.fr news portal reported. Violent migrants were pushed out of the area by the French police, but soon there were more. About three hundred migrants returned armed with iron rods and attacked the law enforcement officers again.

The fierce clash between the police and the migrants lasted from 3 am to 8 am. The prefect of the Pas-de-Calais department, Jean-Claude Leroy, told France Bleu Nord radio that

Since the liquidation of the Calais migrant camp known as the Jungle in October 2016, during which 6,400 illegal immigrants were resettled and transferred to other accommodation, there have been no such violent clashes between immigrants and the police.

And the head of the local police union, Manuel Vanoeteghem, said that 32 police officers were injured in the violent clashes initiated by the migrants, and seven of them had injuries so serious that they had to be taken to hospital. At least one of them has injuries that are healing beyond 14 days, he added.
