The European left, led by the German left, is once again attacking Hungary in an unqualified voice. Now, because he refused to sign a joint statement on Hong Kong that lacks political weight and seriousness. That's how it was, and even if it is re-introduced a hundred times, this will be the result for the hundredth time, writes Viktor Orbán in his samizdata, which was published in Magyar Hírlap.
According to Hungary's point of view, it is necessary to put an end to the practice of Brussels, which consists in fabricating and flagging statements. We understand if any member country wants to present a paper with the EU logo for domestic and internal political reasons. But even this has a limit. In recent years, this domestically motivated common foreign policy has led to the fact that the European Union's foreign policy has become ridiculous.
If our eight joint declarations have been brushed aside so far - and this happened in the case of China - the ninth one will also provoke laughter. We look like pathetic paper tigers, and the world laughs at us after our inconsequential statements. It would be time for the real leaders of Europe, the real shapers of foreign policy, i.e. the heads of state and government, to finally take charge of the big strategic issues, as it happened in the case of Russia at the last European Council meeting, instead of the statement-making foreign policy bureaucrats, he emphasizes.
Regarding Europe's China policy, in our opinion, it is necessary to prevent the re-emergence of Cold War politics and culture in world politics, says the samizdat.
Viktor Orbán points out that restarting the Cold War is against the interests of Europe, Central Europe and Hungary.
We need development, green and digital development. We need cooperation, investments, commercial and cultural-scientific relations, not boycotts, sanctions, lessons and education. Hungary, as before and in the future, will do everything possible to develop international cooperation. We will use our rights guaranteed in the basic treaties of the European Union, we will act according to the principle of loyal cooperation, and we will work to restore Europe's weight and authority in foreign policy. We support initiatives aimed at establishing Europe's strategic sovereignty and autonomy. To do this, first of all, we need to curb the foreign policy rampage of the European left.
