A Catholic church was built in Pusztaszer, Csongrád-Csanád county. The building will be consecrated on Sunday by Bishop László Kiss-Rigó at a festive mass.
The Holy Trinity Church was established with the support of the government, organized by the Diocese of Szeged-Csanád, on a plot donated by the municipality of Pusztaszer with an investment of about HUF 130 million.
The residents of Pusztaszer, which became independent in 1934, had long wanted a Catholic church, the site of which was once designated, but the plot was later incorporated. Since 2012, the locals have organized a horseback pilgrimage to Pálosszentkút for the construction of the church and erected a headstone. A new notch was engraved on the headstone every year until June 24, 2017, when the foundation stone of the building was laid.
The construction of the church was carried out by T-Complexing Kft. in Szeged based on the plans of architect Géza Germán.
The liturgical space of the church has 64 seats, while the religion classroom can accommodate twenty students. The generous, covered-open design of one of the side walls of the church square is special, which creates a direct connection with nature and is also suitable for holding outdoor masses.
Above the altar is the leaded, painted glass work of the sculptor Jenő Kovács, the crucifix, while in the church square - also made by the artist - there is a tabernacle, a baptismal font and a holy water tank. The unique facade doors and windows and indoor benches, as well as the altar, praise the handiwork of the village's professionals. Visitors can access the 20-meter-high tower from the gallery. The energy required for infrared heating and electric lighting is provided by electricity produced by solar panels. The bell was renovated with a donation from the people of Pusztszer and was placed in the tower in 2020.
