DK's health "expert", Imre László, spoke on ATV about the fact that there are an unjustified number of hospitals in the country, so at least 70 of the 160 should be closed.

During the Gyurcsány administration, in 2009, the Schöpf-Merei Hospital, the National Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology and the Svábhegy State Children's Hospital were closed, the lack of which is still felt in the healthcare sector, reports drót.info . The health cabinet leader of the Democratic Coalition, Imre László, indicated in ATV that, in his opinion, hospital closures may be necessary.

"According to my current knowledge, there are 164 inpatient hospitals in Hungary. That's a lot, that's an unreasonable amount. [...] 90-100 hospitals can provide the country with a very safe and high professional standard."

- said Imre László, former chief physician of Szent Imre Hospital and current mayor of Újbuda.

According to the party's health expert, 60-70 hospitals should therefore be closed in the future.

According to the left-wing plans, the remaining 90 inpatient hospitals would mean the liquidation of 45 percent of the currently operating hospitals, so roughly every second hospital would be closed.

In his parliamentary speech on June 7, 2021, Ferenc Gyurcsány also stood by his previous plan, calling the introduction of paid health care a "real, progressive, strategic reform"
