On December 8, 1956, about four thousand people protested in the former Market Square for the release of the arrested revolutionaries. Representatives of the armed forces and Soviet soldiers opened fire on the unarmed crowd. According to archival sources, the volley had 49 dead and 80 wounded.

The National Heritage Institute organized the national program series for the sixth time with the aim of making national and historical memorial sites and the historical events related to them better known.
