The president of the European Commission announced that they plan to send an official letter of warning to Hungary due to the violation of the protection of minorities, and this is the first step in the infringement procedure, reports Mandiner .
Answering a question at a press conference, Ursula von der Leyen pointed out: "Nobody disputes the right of parents to raise their children. The debate is about the fact that Hungarian legislation discriminates against a minority, and this is prohibited by the EU Treaty."
The latter will require the decision of the European Commission, and the board will next meet next week.
The article written by Viktor Orbán and published in European newspapers was discussed, with the content of which Von der Leyen does not agree, but as he said, "this is the essence of democracy."
"That's why we have a free press and freedom of opinion, so that we can have intensive discussions about different opinions about how to proceed," von der Leyen said in relation to the ad.
Unfortunately, the fact that several foreign newspapers rejected Viktor Orbán's paid advertisement explaining the anti-dadophile law contradicts the free press and freedom of expression mentioned by the President of the EC.
A paid political ad that treats the facts so freely cannot be accepted - this is how La Libre Belgique explained why it did not publish the Hungarian Prime Minister's ad. Another newspaper responded that the ad did not match the values they represented. So much for freedom of the press...
