Hungary has raised the level of cooperation with Azerbaijan by one level, to the level of priority strategic partnership, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced on Monday in Budapest.

The Prime Minister met with Azeri President Ilham Aliyev at the Carmelite Monastery.

In their joint press statement, Viktor Orbán emphasized that the level of cooperation was raised because both countries clearly see that "not only Europe, but also the regions connected to Europe, have entered the age of danger in the world".

The current meeting is distinguished from the previous ones by the fact that "the system of international relations that surrounds us" is much more dangerous than at any time before, he said.

He said: the need for energy diversification will increase the value of Azerbaijan, and Azerbaijan's commitment to improving European energy security is welcomed.

Ilham Aliyev spoke about the fact that energy security is the most important thing everywhere at the moment. His country has plenty of energy to satisfy European needs as a reliable supplier for the next hundred years, the Azeri president declared.
