A sailing camp for young Hungarians from the highlands, organized by the Rákóczi Association and the Tabu Sailing Team, started on Monday in Orfű, Baranya County.

Balázs Orbán , the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office, said at the opening of the camp, which took place between July 26 and 30, that sailing is a special character-shaping and -developing sport, as it teaches self-knowledge, camaraderie, and teamwork to its practitioners who are pushing the limits of their performance capabilities.

Csongor Csáky , the president of the Rákóczi Association, highlighted: in 2020, with the intention of creating a tradition, sailing camps were announced for Hungarian elementary school students abroad, with the initiative and support of professor Lajos Kollár and this summer they can host a total of around 140 young people on five occasions ; One in Tihany, and two each in Nyékládháza and Orfű.

At the opening of this year's fourth event, the president of the organization emphasized that the participants of the camps can take part in the programs because their parents thought it important to enroll them in Hungarian-language schools in Transylvania, Vojvodina, the Highlands and Transcarpathia. He expressed his hope that the children will return to their homes with good experiences, it will become obvious to them how important they are to the motherland , and as a result of their experience reports, they will later regularly return to Hungary with their families.

University professor Lajos Kollár, former president of the Hungarian Sailing Association and current president of the Tabu Sailing Team, chief advisor to the minister, emphasized that the events would not have been possible without the support of the government, including the Ministry of Human Resources.

The Rákóczi Association previously informed MTI that 5,000 Hungarian students and teachers from abroad are expected to attend 16 thematic summer camps in Hungary this year. Then they mentioned that the Rákóczi Tábor and Events Center in Sátoraljaújhely provides a location for the camps, and in addition, there are native language camps in Baja, drama camps in Székesfehérvár, and sailing camps in Orfű and Nyékládháza in Tihany.

They drew attention to the fact that "these get-togethers not only serve to build relationships and relax, but also create a good opportunity to strengthen Hungarian identity".
