When the German journalist asked him about immigration policy, Karácsony said that guaranteeing the human rights of asylum seekers in Hungary is the basic program of the six-party opposition alliance. To this, Die Zeit's journalist asked whether, despite this, the rights of refugees and migrants are really a priority on the left.
And Karácsony replied that I will tell you honestly, we cannot win the election with this topic. He then spoke about how ensuring the rights of asylum seekers is a moral duty and part of our program, but we will not put this on any election poster. Karácsony did not speak at all about the specific rights he would grant to the migrants he called "asylum seekers".
This is not the first time that Karácsony has appeared in the Western media as a great friend of migrants, in May of this year an interview with him was published in the British leftist The Economist, and a picture was attached to it that showed that Karácsony had already crossed the fence on the southern border .
