The European Commission cannot afford to be a party political actor, because sooner or later this behavior will tear the European Union apart, said Gergely Gulyás in Esztergom on Thursday.

At the Mathias Corvinus Collegium MCC Fest - We give voice to talent, the minister who heads the Prime Minister's Office talked with lawyer András Schiffer, a former member of parliament from the LMP, about the future of the European Union, on Thursday in Esztergom.

Gergely Gulyás emphasized: in the current globalizing world, there is no alternative to institutionalized cooperation between European peoples, and common rules are necessary for this.

At the same the European Commission has not taken into account what the legislation allows and what not. It serves political needs even if "for this you have to jump over Community legal rules with even feet", he said.

András Schiffer, the real conflicts affecting the future of Europe are between democratic decision-making and the profit hunger of giant corporations. The question is whether there will be a world where profit precedes the interests of man and nature, or whether human communities will be strong enough to keep capital in check. And for this, strong nation-states and strong cooperation between nation-states are needed at the same time , he opined.
